Svalbard Map Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 4, 2026

Svalbard Map is an offline map and track-recording aid for iPhone. This policy applies to the app and this support website.

Information the app uses

Map-service requests

When a map tile is not already saved, or you choose online-only satellite or orthophoto imagery, the app requests it from the Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI) map service. Like other web services, NPI may receive technical connection information such as an IP address and request time, and may infer the requested map area from the tile request. The app does not send your GPS location, recorded track, saved places or GPX-file contents to NPI. NPI’s handling of its service requests is governed by its own terms and privacy information.

Orthophoto is requested for the current session only and is not saved for offline use.

What the app does not do

Svalbard Map does not provide user accounts, advertising, analytics, behavioural tracking, developer-operated cloud backups, or sale of personal information.

Your choices and deletion

You can decline or revoke location permission in iPhone Settings and stop a recording at any time. You can delete tracks, saved places and offline map areas in the app. Deleting the app removes its private on-device data, subject to iOS backup settings you control. Because the developer does not receive a copy of this on-device data, the developer cannot retrieve or delete it for you.
